There is a beautiful cadence to natural cycles, like a choreographed ballet; beauty, softness, and precision in perfect balance.
I was lucky to see Akram Khan's Giselle earlier this year, and what I saw I could only describe as rhythmic alchemy. It was exquisite, and at one point I was overwhelmed by its beauty, tears rolled down my face. I am touched by the same precise symmetry of nature and by the ritual that transforms plants into essential oils.
From Dawn till Dusk
Each plant waits for its perfect moment, when its fragrance is at its fullest, and it is ready to be gathered. Jasmine, hypnotic and sensual, reveals its magic at dawn, while rose and tuberose save their most enchanting scent for the afternoon.
Moon Cycles
This alchemy flows in harmony with both Sun and Moon. Growers tune themselves to lunar rhythms, planting and harvesting in time with the moon’s phases. Above ground, plants flourish under the waxing moon as energy ascends. Tubers, seeds, and roots hidden below reach their peak when gathered during the waning moon, as energy sinks downward and inward.
Seasonal rhythms
Just as each flower blooms in its own time, the year reveals itself in a fragrant procession. In Grasse, one of the world’s great oil producing regions, the calendar is written in scent: soft honeyed mimosa in February, violets in March, jonquils in April, orange blossom and rose in May, tuberose in June, and a grand finale of jasmine in July and August.
Terroir and energy
Essential oils are grown all over the world, and each region gives its own character to the plants. That’s why Croatian lavender is different from lavender in Bulgaria, France, England, or New Zealand. Higher altitudes make the oils softer and brighter. I believe this affects their unique qualities.
Conclusion
As you may have sensed, countless elements shape the journey of pure essential oils. At Quantum Alchemy, I seek out vibrational oils, always searching for the highest quality and purity from ethical suppliers.
Before I use my oils, I always cleanse them. This is a practice I have refined over more than twenty years as a healer. I have created my own way to remove any energy the oils may have picked up as they travel from harvest to extraction and shipping, passing through many hands.
My Alchemy
When I make each product, I charge it with Reiki energy, infusing it with universal life force to strengthen it. Reiki charging is a gentle and mindful process. I place my hands over the oil, still my mind, and let the energy flow into the blend. Then I place my hands on the vessel and send my intentions.
This is a peaceful moment, and I notice a gentle shift in energy as the bottles seem to fill with new vitality.
This has always been my working practice and is why I create in small batches. Everything has a beginning, middle and ending; this is my cycle, my dance that helps me weave such potent infusions.
Reflection
Do you listen to your own rhythms and cycles?
Do you tune into your energy balance?
Why do you think beginnings, middles, and endings are so important?
Take a deep breath in and use it as a metaphor for this cycle. Which part do you find the most difficult?
Beginnings - starting a project, task or practice. (What is the fear?)
Middle - Sustaining your energy and focus. (Is this self-sabotage kicking in?)
Endings - is completing difficult? (Could this be fear of judgement?)
